Dear Neighbor:

As a child, my mother made a decision to move our family to DeKalb County to ensure my siblings and I could grow up in a safe community and attend great public schools.  Growing up in a single parent household, seeing her sacrifice taught us first hand that having access to an excellent education equals opportunity.  As a result, I received an outstanding foundation that prepared me for college and life as a productive citizen in our country.  I’m running for the DeKalb County Board of Education because I believe education is a right, not a privilege, and I want to ensure that every child in DeKalb receives a high quality public education.

I am the product of life changing teachers who provided me with a world class education, but today our schools are at a crossroads.  The school board members we elect on May 20th will determine the success or failure of the next generation.  I know there is no silver bullet, but there are real improvements we can make right away to change outcomes for DeKalb’s kids.  Working together with the community, I pledge to:

  • Collaborate with parents, teachers, principals, members of the community to hire a transformational Superintendent
  • Reduce the Dropout Rate
  • Increase Parental Involvement
  • Recruit, Develop, and Retain Top Talent in our Schools
  • Expand Access to Early Childhood Education Programs
  • Give Schools Flexibility and Hold Them Accountable

As a 21 year DeKalb resident and graduate of DeKalb County public schools, I know our future depends on making sure that every child in DeKalb is college and career ready. I commit to identifying the most critical problems facing our schools and fighting every day to implement innovative solutions that are right for our children.  As your member on the DeKalb School Board, I will listen to your priorities and work tirelessly to ensure all DeKalb’s kids receive an excellent education, one that prepares them for the jobs of tomorrow.  Working together, I know that we can give every student in DeKalb the opportunity to make their dreams come true.

I humbly ask for your support, your voice, and your vote on May 20th for the DeKalb County Board of Education, District 3.
